A walking tour of majestic Valletta and the Three Cities

Our walking tour begins in Floriana, Valletta’s neighbouring town, named after the Italian architect and engineer Pietro Paolo Floriani, who was responsible for the construction of its fortifications.

We will then proceed to the fortress walls of the capital city Valletta and head to the Upper Barrakka Gardens, go down an elevator and take a ferry to the Three Cities, where the history of the Knights in Malta began in 1530. (Ferry tickets are paid extra).

We will see the first hospital and the buildings built by the knights, the parish church of St. Lawrence, the Palace of the Inquisitors and Fort Saint Angelo. (Entrance tickets are paid extra). We will enjoy the tranquillity and the local flavour, have tea with milk and delicious Maltese pastizzi (a treat from the guide), and afterwards head back to the capital city by ferry.

Valletta is a fortress city. “We are knights and we will build a great city for the knights,” said its founder, Grand Master Jean Parisot de Valette. Valletta is the political and economic centre of the state of Malta, founded at the end of the 16th century by the Knights of the Order of St. John. There, we will see the majestic buildings of the knights, visit the Co-Cathedral of St. John the Baptist (entrance tickets are paid extra), the parish church of the Shipwreck of the Apostle Paul, go to St. George Square to see the Palace of the Grand Master and, if you wish, watch a 5D movie on the history of Valletta (entrance tickets are paid extra).
